Softball Rallies for Win over Catawba College

BOX SCORE-GAME ONE

BOX SCORE-GAME TWO

SALISBURY, NC--The Bloomsburg University softball team scored five times in the top of the seventh inning to pull out a 5-4 win over Catawba College in game one of a doubleheader on Tuesday. The Huskies dropped the second game 1-0 in eight innings despite a strong pitching performance from Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport).

Trailing 4-0 in the top of the seventh inning and with one out, Mandy Koch (Dauphin/Central Dauphin) and Jess Rosin (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) got back-to-back singles to put runners at first and second. Alyssa English (Wallacetown/Phillipsburg-Osceola) then reached on an error by the centerfielder to load the bases. Tiff Corliss (Lewisburg/Mifflinburg) walked to force in a run and Reed had an RBI single to make it 4-2. Kayleen Sidisky (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) then reached on an error sending another run home making it 4-3. After a force out at home kept, Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) reached on an error by the second baseman with Sidisky scoring the tying run and Reed the go-ahead run.

In the bottom of the seventh, Catawba put two runners, but Lynn induced a double play ground ball to end the game.

In game two, the Huskies banged out 10 hits, but could not score in a 1-0, eight inning loss spoiling Tara Reed's great pitching performance. Reed did not allow a hit till the fifth inning and only one hit into the eighth inning.

Offensively, Bloomsburg left the bases loaded in both the second and seventh innings, but could not get a run across.

Playing the tie-breaking rule, Catawba scored the game's only run when a runner was put on second to start the inning and Ryann Baker singled to left with the run scoring after a bobble in outfield by the Huskies.

Corliss led the Huskies in game two with two hits, while eight other Huskies had at least one hit.

Bloomsburg, 3-4, will play at Johnson C. Smith College on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
